OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The weather in Ottumwa might have been rainy Thursday, but southeast Iowa didn’t receive that much rain over the summer, which really helped The Beach Ottumwa’s profits for the month of July.
“We had a great summer at The Beach Ottumwa. The outdoors portion of the beach was open everyday in July, and it was hot and sunny. We had new features; a new water-slide, a new children’s play area, and we made a profit of $58,000," said Rathje.

Rathje went on to say, “Now, we didn’t make a profit in June or August, but we did have a good month in July.”
“We are planning on adding new features. We are planning on adding a lazy river, but before we do that we need to come up with the funding in order to make the improvements. The funding would come through some type of bond issue or we would write-up a grant application," said Rathje.
The Beach Ottumwa is open during the winter months. Residents are encouraged to participate in the water-aerobics program or the lap-swimming hours.
