OTTUMWA -- An Ottumwa native is finally realizing his dream of opening a business in his hometown.
Curt Hopkins, along with about 40 people gathered Thursday morning for the groundbreaking on a new Pizza Ranch restaurant. Hopkins opened a pizza ranch in Fairfield five years ago when he couldn’t find suitable real estate in Ottumwa. Now he finally has a spot to open up shop.
“I lived in Ottumwa my whole life,” Hopkins said. “I'm an Ottumwa native. It’s always been a dream to bring the store here. I've always wanted to do that for my whole life. I just wanted to own a business in the town I live in.”
Hopkins has big expectations. He says the Fairfield branch saw a double digit increase in sales last year. He believes that consumer demand for a Pizza Ranch, combined with high traffic next to Menards, Walmart and the proposed Kohl’s, will make the new spot highly profitable.
