OTTUMWA -- For the Facebook story of the day you wanted to know more about this year's flu vaccine.
The Wapello County Public Health Center is already giving out shots to the public. Several other area pharmacies are also taking walk-ins.
One question our fans wanted to know about was the nasal spray form of the vaccine. This is available but unlike the traditional shot some precautions need to be made.
“It is a live virus,” said Lynelle Diers of the Wapello County Public Health Center. “It's not inactivated like the shot is so therefore if somebody has asthma and sneezes, they're actually sneezing out a live virus for several days.”
Because of the H1N1 scare last year more children are taking flu shots through the nasal form.
Deers expects more people to get their flu shots once the weather cools down later this week
