KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The city of Kirksville commemorated the ten year anniversary of 9/11.

The Kirksville Salvation Army and The Kirksville Interchurch Ministries held a memorial service at the Rotary Park Amphitheater Sunday afternoon.

Those in attendance paused and reflected on the events of that horrific Tuesday morning ten years ago, remembered the victims, and talked about how the world has changed since then.

Major Bill Hogg of The Kirksville Salvation Army says that out of the tragedy, there has been some positive outcome.

“I see more patriotism.” Hogg said. “I see people are quicker to defend America now and prouder to say ‘I'm American.’ I don't know if that much was happening 10 years ago. But after 9/11 happened, I think things changed. Now we are not afraid to say ‘This is our country and we have to keep going.’”

During the service, prayers were offered for police, fire, and E.M.T. officials.

There was also a DJ that played patriotic music like “God Bless America” and “God Bless The U.S.A.”
