KIRKSVILLE, MO --
The rain might have put a bit of a damper on afternoon activities at the 1st Harvest Fest, but the event went on as planned.

The Harvest Fest took place at Jacob’s Vineyard & Winery in Kirksville.

The 2011 Harvest Fest goal is to raise money for children and adults with disabilities. The Harvest Fest featured a silent auction, grape stomp, bottle corking competition, barrel roll, in-house poker run and airbrush body art.

The rain kept most of the afternoon activities indoors, but there was still a chance to sip on some specialty wines. Winery supporter Valerie Johnson says the event is a way to bring the community together..

“Proceeds go to help those that through no fault of their own that have become disabled. These kind of events bring people together and they help those with disabilities be a part of society and integrate and have individuals with no experience with disabilities the opportunity to learn more about them,” said Johnson.

The event ends at midnight Saturday.
