KANSAS CITY, MO (AP) -- The first day of a Kansas City air show ended abruptly after a small biplane crashed while performing a stunt, killing the pilot.

Aviation Department spokesman Joe McBride says the pilot couldn't pull out of a maneuver and crashed onto the grass of the
downtown airport airfield.

McBride says spectators at the Kansas City Aviation Expo Air Show were asked to leave Wheeler Downtown Airport after the crash.

He says tickets for Saturday's show would be honored Sunday.

Event organizers scheduled a news conference Saturday afternoon to discuss details of the incident. McBride says it's the first
fatal crash at the annual air show.

The name of the pilot hasn't been released.

The air show started off slowly Saturday morning when rainfall delayed air demonstrations.
