BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- Davis County families united for the all-day Fort Bloomfield Family Rodeo, held at the Davis County Fairgrounds.
This was the fourth and last rodeo in 2011 at the Fairgrounds. Rodeo committee members say there were 450 contestants.
Kids were dressed in their cowboy boots and hats, ready for their last chance to win some new buckles. They competed in events such as ribbon roping, stick horse races, and pole bending.
One parent and Fort Bloomfield Family Rodeo committee member said that rodeos teach kids good values, like sportsmanship.
"The kids learn discipline and respect," said Tracy Hudnut. "The parents help teach that and it helps them to be a better person as they grow older and better adults."
The children KTVO interviewed said winning at the rodeo means a lot to them.
" It means to me that I'm doing good and I really work hard and that hard work pays off," said Jarrett Orman, a second place or reserve winner.
Committee members say the fancy belt buckles, embellished with the Fort Bloomfield Family Rodeo logo, are worth more than $100.
