SALEM, IOWA -- UPDATE: 4:00 p.m. Federal Aviation officials are investigating the crash of a small plane near Salem, Iowa.
Gary Kirby, of McKinney Texas, was flying his small, one engine plane from Oshkosh, Wisconsin when he began experiencing engine problems.
Kirby attempted to land at Mt. Pleasant Airport, but could not make it.
The plane crashed into a corn field 15 miles south of Mt. Pleasant owned by Alan Miller.
Kirby was transported to the Henry County Hospital, before being transferred to University Hospitals in Iowa City. He injuries are described as not life threatening.
First responders reported that Kirby was awake and talking when he was pulled from the wreckage of his plane.
Miller took the still photos of the wreckage beacause law enforcement did not allow the media close to the wreckage.

KTVO's James Buchele has just arrived at the scene. The crash occured in a field in rural Henry County. Officials say the pilot was the only person aboard, he was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The pilot was concious and able to speak when emergency responders arrived on the scene.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office tells KTVO that they have responded to a plane crash near Salem.
At this time Sheriff's officials did not have any information on what type of craft it may have been, or about any fatalities.
Salem is south of Mt. Pleasant near the Henry County- Lee County LIne.
