ST. LOUIS, MO. --
A former Kirksville Mayor moves closer to release from federal custody former mayor Debbie Masten has been serving time in federal prison following her conviction on an arson charge in connection with a fire that heavily damaged her business.
It was New Years Day in 2005, when fire broke out at Too Talls Two. The fire was reported shortly after the business closed following New Year’s Eve activities.
Masten was later convicted after a jury trial in federal court in Saint Louis. It took jurors just two hours to convict Masten of the arson charge. She was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison. She served a portion of her time at a facility in Bryan Texas, before being transferred to another facility in Pekin, Illinois.
Masten has now begun the process to move toward release by being sent to a Residential Recovery Center in Saint Louis. These centers provide comprehensive community-based services for prisoners nearing their release date. As of right now, April 13th, 2012, is the scheduled date for Masten's release.
