OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The job picture in southeast Iowa took a turn for the worse in June.
Iowa Workforce Development released its county-by-county unemployment data on Tuesday and every county in southeast Iowa had more workers without jobs in June than in May.
Wapello County saw the biggest jump with the percentage of unemployed workers rising almost a full percent from 7.1% in May to 7.9% this past month.
That unemployment rate is one of the highest in the state.
Jefferson County checks in with a june umemployment rate of 7.25 a half of percent.
Davis and Van Buren counties posted similar numbers with a jobless rate of 7.1%and 7.2% respectively.
Statewide the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6%
If there is one fact southeast Iowans can take solace in, it is that the area's unemployment rate remains significantly below the national rate of 9.2.
