OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Bridge City Sanitation began a new automated trash collection service in Ottumwa this week. Due to the start up of the new program, there are some delays in regular trash and recycling collection this week. Customers are asked to be patient the first few weeks as the new collection system is implemented.
City of Ottumwa Director of Health, Inspections and Solid Waste Jody Gates said, “The start up has been a little more challenging than we had hoped. Bridge City Sanitation is working to address these difficulties in a timely manner. We apologize for the collection delays and ask customers to please be patient.”
Customers whose trash did not get collected on the usual day are asked to leave their trash carts on the curb. The new trash cart must be placed on the curb by the street with the bar facing the street and side with the wheels and handle facing your property for collection. Please allow some space between the cart and obstacles like your recycling bin, street signs, fire hydrants and anything else that might impede the mechanical arm from collecting the cart.
