Southeast Iowa pilot to be remembered this week

OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Funeral arrangements have been planned for a southeast Iowa pilot who died after suffering serious injuries from a plane crash Thursday evening.

Rex Yoakam, 60, of Wapello County, will be remembered this Monday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. with a visitation service at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa. The following day a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. in the same location.

Following the funeral service, Yoakam will be buried at the Ottumwa Cemetery will full military honors. 

Yoakam’s family is asking that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Davenport, Iowa in remembrance of him.


Rex Yoakam’s plane, a 773-Racer, crashed at the Ottumwa Regional Airport Thursday evening.

Eye-witnesses told KTVO that the plane seemed to have mechanical problems as it was approaching the airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration told KTVO that they are investigating the cause of crash, which could take several weeks.
