Missouri Highway Patrol Troop B hosted a 5K race for the Missouri Special Olympics
MACON, MO. -- Missourians got a chance to run for a great cause.
The Missouri Highway Patrol Troop B out of Macon hosted a 5K race at Long Branch State Park early Saturday morning.
The run was held to help raise money for the Missouri Special Olympics where athletes with special needs get to participate in regional and state competitions. It’s a cause the patrol is proud to support.
“Well The Missouri Highway Patrol has always been a supporter for Special Olympics for 30 years. “ Said Lt. Nelson Elfrink. “Since the on-set of Special Olympics. The Law Enforcement Torch Run and the various events between that and The Polar Plunge, those types of events, they all raise funds for this event. It's all for the athletes so they can participate in their events.”
Despite the cloudy and rainy weather, 77 runners participated, raising about a thousand dollars for Special Olympics.
