KIRKSVILLE, MO -- It was a monumental day for the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Kirksville.

The church celebrated its 125th anniversary with an outdoor mass Sunday afternoon.

Mary Immaculate was founded in 1886 as a mission of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Adair, Missouri.

Leaders of the special outdoor mass included the Most Reverend John Gaydos, Bishop of the Diocese of Jefferson City and Father Chris Cordes of Mary Immaculate, along with other priests.

Several proclamations were given to the parish, two of those presented by Kirksville Mayor Richard Detweiler and State Representative Zachary Wyatt.

Former and current clergy, parishioners and friends enjoyed an anniversary dinner afterward.
