SIGOURNEY, IOWA -- In April, the Heartland lost a Keokuk County Sheriff’s Deputy after he was gunned down in the line of duty. On Friday, a benefit will be held to raise money for his daughter.
KTVO spoke with one of Stein’s closest friends today, Chad Weber. Weber told KTVO that Stein was a loving father and thought the world of his daughter. Weber told us that this benefit is something that small communities do for each other.
“The community is close together, we want to make sure we take care of Shelby and the family. Everybody seems to help everybody out; it’s just the kind of thing that happens here. Tragedy in the community pulls people together and we help each other out no matter what, whether it is money, it’s just what we do here,” said Weber.
Weber also told KTVO why benefits like this are important to the community.
“I think it’s important because what happened to us, it’s really turned into a big thing. It’s tough for a lot of small towns to get the equipment for stuff. Stuff like this doesn’t happen in some communities and it’s really important that we are able to make this bigger. We are able to show everybody that there is a need for this stuff and it’s important we done forget what happened and make something good come out of nothing,” said Weber.
