MACON, MO -- Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B in Macon, announced the 2011 Memorial Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for Troop B. The Troop B area consists of 16 northeast Missouri counties.

During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E., Combined Accident Reduction Effort, and as an added enforcement effort also conducted a “20-Mile Trooper Operation” on U.S. Highways 24, 36, 61 and 63 on Friday and Monday.

During the holiday weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday, Troop B officers investigated 10 traffic crashes resulting in four injuries. Preliminary enforcement totals show officers issued 442 summonses for speed, 112 summonses for seat belt violations, 853 warnings, made 12 arrests for driving while intoxicated and assisted 145 motorists.

“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” Captain Wilt said.
