MACON, MO -- Memorial Day is the first long holiday weekend of the year.
Missouri State Highway Patrol know a lot of people will be travelling throughout the state of Missouri. Troopers will be moving around getting to different areas to make sure travelers arrive to their destinations safely.
Last year, six people were killed and over 1,000 traffic crashes occured in Missouri, so troopers are encouraging motorists to pay attention and use good driving habits. Also drivers need to stay focused on being a safe driver and make sure to abide by the speed limit signs.
State troopers want to remind everyone that if alcohol is apart of your plans to chose a sober driver, and make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained with a seatbelt or child restraint seat.
All available troopers will be working sometime during the weekend.
