KIRKSVILLE --  There are a number of streets in Kirksville that are in desperate need of repairs.

Street crews are making their rounds this spring to fix those headaches otherwise known as potholes.

They're using a machine that blows the dirt out of the holes, fills the pothole with an oil mixture and then they allow that oil to harden.

Streets that are getting the most attention in Kirksville are Normal, South First and Cottage Grove.

Kirksville's Street Supervisor  Ray Sandstrom explains what causes these annoying potholes in the first place.

"We notice a lot in the early spring. In the winter, it freezes at night then moisture goes into the cracks and then traffic hits the holes and the holes get bigger," Sandstrom said.

City officials also will be taking on a big project once school is out for the summer.

Baltimore to Cottage Grove will go under a makeover.

The project is expected to begin sometime around June 6th and should last for about three weeks.

If you have any complaints about streets, you're urged to contact the Kirksville Public Works Office.
