KIRKSVILLE, MO --
MoDOT officials say the contractor CJ Moyna & Sons is a little behind where they'd like to be, but the Alternate Route 63 is still on schedule to open this fall.
“If we can get some sunshine and some dry weather, the contractor's getting dirt work ready for the paving crew and as soon as the paving crew shows up on site, things will really start to take shape quite quickly,” said Shane Viers, MoDOT Assistant Resident Engineer.
You wanted to know how locations were determined for overpasses, like the one on Patterson Street.
“The reason we decided to put a bridge overpass on Patterson Street has to do with, the traffic flow through there is very minor, we did not want any access at Patterson Street, we wanted to limit the access to only the major routes along the alternate route,” Viers said.
So how fast will you be driving on the alternate route 63? The speed limit will be 60 miles per hour.
With the alternate 63 work to Routes P and 11 already completed, Route 6 is the next to close.
“Route 6 is, we're getting closer to being able to see when we will close that but at this time there's not any plans to close that anytime soon. We're still probably a month away or so depending on the weather,” Viers said.
There will be on ramps and off ramps located at the north interchange just south of Benton Way. Modified ramps will also be found on the south end of the alternate route at the tie-in near Eagle Lane.
There won't be any caution lights, but there will be street lights at all intersections. None of those will be up prior to the opening of the alternate route.
“Right now the plan is to hold off on that until very close to the date of the opening. We will have the lights installed, the contractors working on that at this time, but the lights won't come on until we're ready to open and at that time the stop signs will be up and visible,” Viers said.
Viers says no businesses were forced to relocate to make room for the alternate route.
