UNIONVILLE,MO --  "This is a wonderful day for America," said Veteran James Perkins.

A wonderful day that could be felt deep in the heart of America.

On Monday morning, around 100 citizens gathered in downtown Unionville to honor the troops overseas and to celebrate one of the greatest days in American history.

"I feel that it is important for the people of this country and the people of Missouri to realize what has happened yesterday," Perkins said.

Shannon Stanley, a local mother of one, thought it would be important to bring her son out to witness the historic celebration.

"You know when 9/11 happened, we were all so quick to rally and come together for that and I think this was great news that we got. We need to pull back and come together and celebrate this event and get behind these Navy SEALs who went in there and took care of what needed to be taken care of," Stanley said.

The American Legion Post of Unionville led the rally with a police escort to the courthouse.

Songs rang out, prayers were led, and Ole Glory was raised for all to see.

The future of America also helped in leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

Unionville residents made it clear on Monday morning that they were proud to be Americans and proud to be from the state of Missouri.

"The people of this community are patriotic. You can not believe how patriotic people are in this community and I appreciate it as a veteran," Perkins said.

We are proud of those who took care of one of our enemies and they risked their lives for us," said Carol Perkins.

It even fired up the veterans on hand.

They said they would be willing to head back to fight for Ole Glory, if the Commander-In-Chief came calling. "I'm 78 years old, 79 in July and Dwayne and I will both go back anytime Uncle Sam wants us," Perkins said.

Shannon Stanley will continue walking hand in hand with her son, thanks to those who gave their lives and allow us to be forever free.
