JEFFERSON CITY, MO (AP) --
Missouri residents may soon get a chance to buy some prime prison-front property.
Legislation awaiting a final Senate vote could put about 1,000 acres of state property up for sale - much of it near prisons.
Republican Sen. Jim Lembke says he asked the state Office of Administration to identify excess property or land that could
perhaps fetch a good price on the open market.
The legislation would not guarantee all the property would be sold, but it would give the state the authority to put it up for
sale.
A financial estimate says the state could make $3.6 million that could go toward the state's general revenues.
