OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Employees from Cargill's Ottumwa and Eddyville plants are turning Earth Day into a week long celebration all this week with students from the Ottumwa Community School District.
Monday at Memorial Park, students learned about recycling, reusing and reducing. Cargill employees took the students through three stations. At one of the stations, the elementary school students learned about water. Throughout the entire session, the kids learned about how much water is on the earth and exactly how much of that water humans can drink. The students also learned how much water is in the atmosphere and frozen at each of the polar ice caps.
At another stations, students learned about water treatment. Employees with the company took the students through a process of how and why Cargill treats water at their plants. The last station focused on recycling. The students learned why it is important to recycle.
KTVO will be celebrating Earth Day all this week with Cargill. Look for more reports to come later this week.
Cargill has invested both time and money into restoring Memorial Park. The company painted the benches and playground equipment as well as installing a new concrete pad for the picnic tables. The renovations are a great improvement to the park.
