OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ottumwa is taking a new approach to help promote the city.

The Chamber of Commerce is getting ready to put up new banners throughout the city. The banners will fly 365 days a year and will have sponsorships on them. It's an effort to promote the city's public image for tourism.

They will be 72 inches longs and 30 inches wide. The banners are expected to be up by the middle of June.

Areas that will have them include the Market, Church, and Jefferson Street bridges, downtown roads, and the Quincy Place Mall.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Terry McNitt is excited.

"Anytime we can beautify the community and we can put up something that makes us feel good that promotes image, we want people to feel good about living here. We want visitors to feel good and tell people about it when they come."

Ideas are being accepted for designs. If you would like to submit one, call Terry McNitt at 641-682-3465 or visit www.ottumwachamber.org.
