KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Authorities arrested two people in the wee hours of the morning for allegedly stealing a car.

Just before 3 a.m. Thursday, an Adair County sheriff's deputy responded to a report of a reckless driver on north Baltimore Street in Kirksville.

When the deputy got there, he said the car was in the parking lot of Custom Auto Body, and two people were standing outside the vehicle.

They fled on foot as the patrol car approached.

Both of them were located a short time later.

They are Jeremiah Hurdle, 25, of rural Novinger and Misty Neilson, 23, of Lansing, Iowa.

Both are being held in the Adair County Jail charged with one count of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.

Investigators said the car they were in was stolen from Schuyler County, Missouri.

Hurdle was also wanted on a warrant for failure to appear.
