Dead eagle with missing feet found near Rathbun

CENTERVILLE, IOWA -- KTVO received a tip on Sunday that a bald eagle had been killed near Lake Rathbun this past weekend.

The Appanoose County Sheriff's Department confirmed on Monday morning that they had recovered the remains of bald eagle.

Authorities aren't certain what killed the bird, but they did confirm that the eagle was found with the feet removed.

The sheriff's department has turned the investigation over to the federal government.

Killing a bald eagle is a federal crime.
