BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- For the past few months, students at Davis County High School have been hard at work. It is not homework they have been completing, it is works of art.
Through their art, students are able to express their thoughts, their opinions and emotions.
"It's just one of the mediums that I really like to work with. Especially because it's all white so I didn't have to use anything else and I really love black and whites," said Jenifer Fenton, a senior participating in the art show.
Fenton and her classmates have worked months on producing the first art show at the new Davis County High School.
Fenton was honored with best in show, and won first place in her category.
"This means a lot because I've been doing the art show for 4 years and it's just really an honor to be getting this my senior year. I worked really hard on it and I really like it. It's awesome to get recognition for it," said Fenton.
Senior Demry Hill spent hours perfecting his pencil drawing of an eagle soaring over the mountains.
"I've always been fascinated with eagles. I sometimes wish that I had wings like an eagle. My grandfather always liked eagles and I am a big wildlife guy," said Hill.
Their teacher, Lory Chaplin, is very proud of her students. Chaplin wanted her students to engage in each other's works of art, so she had them pass through the exhibit filling out a questionnaire about what they saw and what the object meant to them through their eyes.
The exhibit is open to the public Thursday night at the Davis County High School in Bloomfield.
Ms. Chaplin also wants to take her students to art exhibits around the Heartland. Funding for these trips is very costly. If you would like to donate to the program so the students can learn more about art in the Heartland contact Lory Chaplin at Davis County High School here.
