OTTUMWA,IOWA -- Iowans who are disabled or elderly now have some help to pay for their homes.

The Seneca Area Agency on Aging says the credits can help on home or rent reimbursement on apartments or mobile home lot rent.

Its based on your annual household income from 2010 including social security, wages, pension, and interest from everyone living in the household.

To be eligible, the total income must be less than $20,741. Applicants must also be at least 65 or disabled and at least 18 years old. It also assists people living in nursing homes who do or do not still maintain a home.

Seneca Information & Assistance Specialist Joan Nydle says it makes a big difference.

"Anytime we can save on things that would be a cost we want to be able to get that out there. To our elderly, to our disabled and to the caregivers that are also looking out for the assets of the people."

Applications are being accepted until June 1st. For more information on applying, call the Seneca Area Agency on Aging at 641-682-2270 or 1-800-642-6522
