OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Bridge View Center saw plenty of green Friday.

It was the first day of the Iowa Horticultural Expo. The third annual event is sponsored by the Iowa State Horticultural Society. It offers various tips and products to help with gardening.

There were over 30 exhibitors on hand. Guest speakers were also there to discuss environmental issues. An insect zoo is planned for children on Saturday.

ISHS President Gary Twedt says gardening has its advantages, "Because of the economy, gardening is going to be big this year. People want ideas on how to put up the best garden for their back yard  to grow their own produce and save a little bit on their food bill. You get fresh vegetables and fruit throughout the summer."

The event starts back up Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $15, but only $5 for people who only want to see the trade show.
