OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Rising temperatures means rising waters to some residents in Ottumwa.
Homeowners along the Des Moines River have had their share of flooding in the past few years, but this year could be an exception.
With most of the snow melted around the Heartland and rivers at their normal levels, flooding concerns are pretty low.
Josh Stevens, the Wapello County Emergency Management Coordinator says, "Residents that live along the river remember what happened in 2008. They know what to expect and are actually our best indicators if the river is flooding or about to flood. They let us know what is happening right on the river. They have lived their for years and because they know what is happening, they have first hand knowledge."
Stevens also said that the Red Rock Reservoir near Des Moines is at a steady level and so far, no one is anticipating any serious flooding. That reservoir is controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers. They release water when the reservoir gets to high, which takes about 18 hours to get to Ottumwa.
