KIRKSVILLE, MO -- We have received several phone calls from viewers asking questions pertaining to the progress of Alternate Route 63 in Adair County. What will become of the current Highway 63 (Baltimore Street) that currently runs through Kirksville? Who will be in charge of maintaining it? Well our Fact Finder team spoke with MoDOT Assistant District Engineer Kevin James on Friday to find out.
“There’ll be some changes how Route 6 and Route 11 run over different segments through town but the section of Baltimore will become Business 63” James said. “It will still be maintained by MoDOT. We have a primary responsibility for the pavements, traffic signals, snow removal; all those aspects of highway maintenance.”
Once it’s all said and done James said the alternate route will become the new Highway 63. Construction is scheduled to be complete in October or November of 2011, weather permitting.
MoDOT is still scheduled to close a section of Route 6 in the spring for 28 days for construction.
