GREEN CITY, MO. -- One house fire caused another house fire.
A fire Thursday morning on South Lincoln Street in Green City destroyed one home, and the embers from that fire, caught a nearby house on fire.
The first home, owned by Kenneth Hill of Green Castle, is a total loss.
It burned to the ground.
Anna Graber, her three young children and a friend lived in the house.
They rented it from the Hills.
All five of them made it out okay.
Green City Deputy Fire Chief Gary Billington told KTVO the home’s attic was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews got there.
He said three-foot drifts all around the house made it difficult for firefighters to battle the blaze.
Billington said an electrical problem in the attic started the blaze.
The second home was vacant. It was also destroyed.
Billington said he thinks an ember from the first house fire got into the attic of the second home, which sat just 15 feet away.
If you'd like to help the family out with donations of clothing, you may contact Judy Guiles at (660) 874-4487.
She is collecting items of clothing for the family and trying to find a home for them to live in.
The Grabers are staying with family in Jamesport, Missouri, until they can find a new place to live in the Green City area.
