KIRKSVILLE, MO -- It's being dubbed as “Snowmageden,” the winter storm system that's passing through the Heartland.

The Adair County Emergency Operations Center met early Tuesday to put a plan in place.

Several agencies were on hand Tuesday morning, including the Kirksville Police Department, fire department and the Red Cross.

With up to 18 inches of snow expected by the time this system passes through, the agencies decided the best thing people can do to ensure their safety is to stay inside.

“The basic message I want the folks to know is to maybe stay in and stay home the less traffic we have out there the safer the people are going to be. You are going to be as safe in your home as you are going to be anywhere,” said Fire Chief Randy Behrens.

In addition, the Adair County Commissioners have advised the local emergency planning committee that the road and bridge crews will not blade county roads until snow and wind from this storm have subsided.
