KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Kirksville Walmart store was locked down for a period of time Wednesday afternoon, after police received a report of an armed man in the parking lot threatening to harm himself.

Just after 2:00 p.m., Kirksville Police were notified by a passerby that there appeared to be a man acting agitated sitting in a pick-up truck with a gun to his head.

The store was put on lockdown for a short time.

“As you might expect, this is a very busy place, but certainly with the staffing available we tried to curtail the traffic. We did ask that Wal-Mart lock their doors and try to keep their patrons and explain to them, but quite honestly this happened so fast I'm not sure how quite all that unfolded,” said Chief Jim Hughes.

The vehicle was approached by police and the driver was detained. It was determined by officers that there was nothing of a criminal nature.

No other details are being released at this time.
