KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- Kirksville’s PACT Activity Center specializes in creating activities for those with developmental disabilities.
The Adair County SB40 Development Disability Board has recently chosen a new Coordinator for the PACT Center.
Andy Magruder, a graduate of the Adair County R-II High School, will fill the position. Magruder has moved back to the area after living and working in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He holds a degree in Health and Biomedical Science from Missouri Western State University.
“I’ve been in this field going into my 14th year, working with people who, [as] I actually prefer to call them [have] ‘differing abilities,’ rather than ‘disabilities’ because I feel like we all have disabilities,” said Magruder.
The PACT Center offers activities ranging from bingo to arts and crafts, and they also host ‘Live and Learn’ classes.
“We have some people come in and teach things about winter safety, health, nutrition and fitness,” said Magruder.
Does he have any goals or changes he would like to make while in his new position?
“We just really want to expand the program and try to get as many activities involved so our individuals can come down and have fun and be themselves, and just have a great time,” said Magruder.
