Area youth heading to national conference

QUEEN CITY, MO -- One area high school student is soaring above his peers. Daniel Howe, a junior at Schuyler County High School, has been selected to represent Missouri as a National Youth Correspondent to the 2011 Washington Journalism and Media Conference (WJMC) at George Mason University.

Daniel is a familiar face here at KTVO. He works as the audio operator for our Good Morning Heartland show. At 17, he believes he has an edge above others his age because of his experience.

“A lot of other kids my age only have read stuff in books and in classes” said Daniel. “I work behind the scenes and have hands on experiance. I know how a news show is run and can handle the stress. I’m hoping at the end of the conference I will know more about the industry and how larger markets run efficiently.”

Daniel will join a select group of students from all over the country for an intensive study of journalism and media. He was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in journalism. Daniel is only one of seven youths from Missouri attending this year’s program.

WJMC was created in 2009 and is a unique student leadership conference designed to develop and encourage future leaders in the changing face of the media industry. This year’s conference will take place from July 10 to July 15 at George Mason University.
