OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Drivers in Ottumwa may want to allow some extra time for themselves the next time they hit the road.
The Jefferson Street Bridge will be closed for the next two weeks as construction crews make several repairs.
It's the last stage of the project that started earlier this Fall.
During construction, the bridge will be jacked up and lifted from the pier for new concrete to be placed.
The repairs are part of a scheduled inspection and maintenance to keep Ottumwa's bridges up to date.
Public Information Coordinator Tom Rodgers says it will be an inconvenience to drivers, but traffic should not be an issue.
"I guess you might call it a makeover for the bridge at this point," said Rodgers.
"It's all in line with keeping the bridge within national bridge standards for safety and durability."
The project will be delayed in the event of more severe weather.
