KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- After Friday's winter storm, many of you have contacted our Fact Finder Team about the condition of some of the state highways outside of Kirksville, and why they have only been partially cleared of snow and ice; particularly Highway 11, East of Kirksville.
“We have two priority levels, “ said Dale Niece, MO-DOT Spokesman. “Priority 1 are continuous operation routes, our higher-volume routes. Priority 2 are our lower-volume routes. We do not continuously plow those areas.”
Niece said Highway 11, East of Kirksville is on the Priority 2 list. He attributes Tuesday’s snow and ice covered roadway to “the wind and traffic” packing down Friday’s snow and ice. He said they did plow the area, just not continuously.
Niece told Fact Finder he is sending crews out to treat and plow the area, so it should be cleared by the end of the day, Tuesday, Dec. 28.
When asked if the city of Kirksville and the surrounding areas will have future issues similar to Highway 11, East of Kirksville, he said he hopes not.
