DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Areas of northern and eastern Iowa could get 6 or more inches of snow as a storm sweeps across the region.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines says snow could begin falling along the Minnesota-Iowa border early Friday afternoon and continue into the evening.

Rod Donavon, a weather service meteorologist, says there will be a band of 3 to 6 inches of dry snow across north-central and northeast Iowa and dipping south into the Iowa City and Davenport areas.

He says light to moderate winds will cause some blowing and drifting on roads

Donavon says some light snow with little to no accumulation could occur in central Iowa and that the southwestern third of the state will probably not see any snow from the storm.
