KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A not-for-profit corporation is making strides to save hearts in the community.

NEMO Heart Health is working to get 50 Automated External Defibrillators, or AEDs out in the community in five years.

Thanks to the recent 'Gents and Joules' fundraiser, that goal is becoming a reality.

“I'm proud to announce that that event raised over $53,000 after expenses so that's real money that we have to work with. It's going to help us accomplish our goal of placing the AEDs throughout the community,” said Troy Mihalevich, NEMO Heart Health President.

The AEDs cost around $1,500 to $2,000 apiece.

They will start showing up in public places around the community in the near future.

NEMO heart health will soon celebrate its one year anniversary.
