The recount for Senate District 47 was on hold Monday...the process will resume on Tuesday.
OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Three out of ten Wapello County precinct ballots have been recounted, along with one section of absentee ballots, according to Wapello County Auditor Kelly Spurgeon. There are currently no changes in the results for District 47.
Incumbent State Senator Keith Kreiman (D-Bloomfield) found himself 12 votes behind Republican challenger Mark Chelgren after the November 2nd vote was officially canvassed. Kreiman requested a recount.
The recount panel is comprised of three people, both Chelgren and Kreiman each named one person to the board and they had to agree on the third.
The panel decided to recount the ballots by hand, not machine.
On Tuesday, the recount panel will convene again. The process must be completed by Saturday due to the approaching state canvass. Spurgeon says it is a possibility that a winner could be announced Wednesday.
This is the first election recount in Wapello County since 2001.
