ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Just two weeks after Roy Blunt won election to the U.S. Senate, the St. Louis Tea Party is criticizing the Missouri Republican for refusing to support a ban on earmarks.

The tea party supports a proposed two-year moratorium that could be voted on next week. Blunt does not support the ban, though he said earlier this year he would back a one-year moratorium.

Blunt defeated Democrat Robin Carnahan on Nov. 2. A spokeswoman says that Blunt will fight for the smallest possible federal budget, but he believes he should compete for what she calls Missouri's "fair share" of the tax dollars.

The St. Louis Tea Party said Tuesday that Blunt signed a "Tea Party Treaty" last month, but now has seemingly turned his back on the group.
