KIRKSVILLE, MO -- It’s decision time as voters throughout the country head to the polls to make their voices heard in this year’s election. Voters were flowing in and out of the Adair County Annex when we went by to check in with an Adair County precinct this afternoon.
Adair County Clerk Sandy Collop says that there has been on issue with voting throughout the state.
“Every county in Missouri is hooked up to a centralized voting registration program. And the state is experiencing problems with that program today and it’s uh…sometimes we can access it and sometimes we can’t so we apologize if anyone has had to wait an extended period of time,” Collop said.
Collop says sometimes the only way to look up a voter is through that program. When that program is down, voting staff have to go through manual files, which take a little longer.
Other than that one issue Collop said that it has been a great day for an election.
“Things are going really well. We’ve had great voter turnout, steady lines in all the precincts. We’re just fortunate it’s a nice day and everybody is taking the time to get out and vote. We really appreciate that,” said Collop.
Collop says it’s a busy time for her office, but exciting. She also encourages everyone to run for an office at some point in their life to experience the trials and victories of campaigning.
