KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) -- Missouri voters on Tuesday will consider two people with strong family ties to politics as they choose a new U.S. senator.
Republican Rep. Roy Blunt and Democratic Secretary of State Robin Carnahan are seeking the post being vacated by the retirement of Republican Kit Bond.
Blunt is a former member of House Republican leadership who has represented southwest Missouri's 7th Congressional District since 1997. His son, Matt, is a former governor.
Carnahan is the daughter of former two-term governor Mel Carnahan. Her brother, Russ, is a congressman from St. Louis.
The campaign has been bitter at times. Carnahan tried to link Blunt to politics as usual in Washington, and Blunt characterized her as a "rubber stamp" for President Barack Obama's agenda.
