KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It’s election eve and politicians across the country are using these last few hours to sell voters on their philosophy. And Missouri Republican candidate for the U-S Senate Roy Blunt is no exception. He criss-crossed the show-me state today to meet with supporters and give one last pep talk for them to help get voters out and get him elected.
Blunt told K-T-V-O that he’s making sure to meet with folks throughout the state, unlike his competitor, Democrat Robin Carnahan.
“Well, we’re doing ten events today all over the state. Robin Carnahan is in Saint Louis all day today, that should tell you something. And she was in Saint Louis yesterday. So we’re just going to keep working hard. I’m going to work right up until 11 o’clock tonight (Monday). I’ve got several things tomorrow and whatever the people decide is what happens,” said Blunt.
The end of campaign season also means the end of political ads. During his visit in Kirksville Blunt told KTVO that he’s tried to make his campaign, including the ads, more about issues and less about personal attacks.
“Our ads have all been about the issues. You look at any single ad that I’ve run; it’s all been about the issues. You look at any single ad she ran, it was about me. And the truth is I think this is an election about the issues and I think the politicians who didn’t think that, on Election Day are going to be really surprised,” explained Blunt.
He also explained why voters should send him to Washington.
“If you think Barack Obama needs more help to accomplish his agenda, then you should vote for Robin Carnahan. That’s what he was here for. He said I’m here because I need another vote. If you want to fight for private sector jobs, for healthcare policies that make sense, for taxes that are good for families, for not throwing away money on a silly stimulus package you should vote for me,” said Blunt.
Republican candidate for Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich and current Senator Kit Bond joined Blunt on his tour. About 30 people were on hand for the event at Kirksville’s Regional Airport Hangar.
