DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) - (AP) -- A Des Moines Register poll shows Iowans have a positive view of farmers, with concerns about the effects of farming on air and water.

The Iowa Poll in Thursday's newspaper finds 62 percent of Iowans said they have a mostly positive view of farmers and 30 percent viewed them very positively. Seven percent had a negative view.

When it comes to air quality, 33 percent said it's getting better, while 34 percent said it's getting worse. Twenty-nine percent didn't think air quality has changed much.

On water quality, 39 percent believed it was getting better, while 34 percent felt it was worse and 22 percent saw no change.

The telephone poll was conducted Sept. 19-22 by Selzer & Co. Inc. of Des Moines of 803 Iowa adults. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
