KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Area senior citizens get slammed with information to improve their golden years. Northeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging and other groups hosted the 2nd Annual NEMO Senior Expo at Rehoboth Baptist Church Tuesday. The event started at 10 a.m. and seniors could participate until 2 p.m. The expo included information on retirement investing, changes in Medicare, and Veterans Affairs benefits.
“We think this is a wonderful idea. This is our second year. We plan to continue doing this. It’s really grown this year. We’re expecting to have over 400 people here. The community has been really supportive. We’ve gotten all kinds of donations to do this today. So we’re just really excited,” said Pam Windtberg, Executive Director for the Northeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging.
Lunch, health screenings, door prizes, and more were part of today’s free event. The first 300 folks that attended the expo also walked away with a tote bag.
A state leader came to the heartland today to campaign for a republican candidate hoping to be the state senator from Missouri’s 18th district. Missouri’s Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder stopped in at the Senior Expo to show his support for Republican Candidate Brian Munzlinger.
“He brings good, common sense, conservative main-stream values. He’s a Northeast Missouri Agri-businessman with deep roots in Northeast Missouri. Good service in the House of Representatives. And that’s why democrats, and republicans, and independents are going to elect Brain Munzlinger, I believe on Tuesday, November 2nd,” said Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder.
Munzlinger and Kinder toured throughout the heartland. They headed to Steve’s Deli after the expo. They were also Shelbina and Hannibal Tuesday.
Over 50 organizations participated in this year’s expo.
Windtberg says that if you didn’t make it out to the expo, you can call their office to find out about available resources. In Kirksville call 665-4682. Outside Kirksville call 1-800-664-6338.
