ANKENY, IOWA (AP) -- Green vehicle technology is getting attention in Iowa.

Gov. Chet Culver has proclaimed Friday as Iowa Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day in the state. It accompanies the National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day. As part of the effort in Iowa the Office of Energy Independence and the Iowa Clean Cities Coalition plan an event in Ankeny.

Culver says using alternative fuels and reducing dependance on fossil fuels is the "essence" of Iowa's green economy.

The goal of the event is to educate the public about alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles.
