OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa Fire Department recently added two additional rescue trucks to their fleet.
The new $150,000 trucks provide much more flexibility and utility over the current trucks.
The new, smaller trucks can maneuver easier through tight city streets, haul the rescue boat, and will substantially save money on gas and maintenance compared to the larger trucks.
The new trucks also feature four wheel drive and will allow for greater maneuverability in winter weather.
“We’ll be using them for small fires, running medical calls, service call; we’ll have them out probably on inspections, stuff like that,” said Captain Dave Yeager.
The firemen are undergoing training on the new trucks. They should be in service within a week. The old trucks remain in service as well.
Both the north and south fire station will receive a truck.
