OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Two legislators push for small business expansion across southeast Iowa.

State Senators Keith Kreiman of Bloomfield and Becky Schmitz of Fairfield were in Ottumwa to discuss how small business can flourish in the economy.  Kreiman heard concerns about lowering property taxes on businesses.

He says he plans to fight in Des Moines for that.

“I think it's very, very helpful,” said Kreiman.  “I had a bill to do that last year.  Now I can go back and I can say all the people in my area are very, very interested in this. “I think it's a statewide concern.”

Currently there are many programs to assist private business in Iowa but not everyone knows about them.

"Some of the challenge is just getting the word out of what's available,” said Schmitz.  “We do rely heavily on our local economic development people, chamber of commerce, to get that word out.”
