DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Gov. Chet Culver is introducing a program called "Iowans Helping Iowans" that is intended to help families and businesses recover after the summer floods.
Culver says in a news release Monday that up to $20 million will go toward homeowner assistance, business assistance and other unmet needs.
He says "Iowans Helping Iowans" means the state will use state resources to help people who have been hit hard by several floods in the past four months.
Anyone affected by the natural disasters in a county that has been presidentially declared for individual assistance is eligible.
Homeowners must first register with FEMA and be awarded some form of FEMA housing assistance, and businesses must be approved for a disaster-related loan by an eligible lender.
